What GEMI is

GEMI, the General Commercial Registry, is the official business register of Greece. The Chambers of Commerce keep it, and every company is entered from incorporation: name, legal form, seat, purpose, representatives, capital, plus every amendment, announcement and annual financial statement.

The register's public search, the GEMI disclosure service, gives the basic details of one company at a time and its documents as PDF files. Official certificates are issued there.

What is GEMI?
GEMI (General Commercial Registry) is the official business register of Greece. It is kept by the Chambers of Commerce and records every company from incorporation: name, legal form, seat, representatives, capital, plus every amendment, announcement and annual financial statement.
What is a GEMI number?
The unique number every business receives when it is entered in the register, kept for its whole life. It is different from the VAT number. On BizList you can search by either.
What is the difference between a VAT number and a GEMI number?
The VAT number (AFM) is issued by the tax authority for tax purposes, and individuals have one too. The GEMI number is issued by the Chambers for company disclosure. A company has both.
Is the search free?
Yes. Registry details, revenue, people and documents are open without an account. A subscription unlocks profit and margins, unlimited searches, exports and monitoring.
How current is the data?
New registrations and amendments arrive from the registry every 24 hours. Financial statements are added when they are filed.
What is GEMI disclosure?
Every company's obligation to file its acts with the register: incorporation, amendments, representatives, financial statements. The public disclosure service is the open side of GEMI, and it is what BizList reads from.
How do I check whether a company name is already taken?
Type it into the search. You will see every company registered under that or a similar name, with its status. Official name pre-approval before incorporation is handled by the Chamber.
Can I search by a person's name?
Yes. Type the name and you will see which companies the person is or was involved in, in what capacity, and the connections between them.
Where is the official GEMI search?
At publicity.businessportal.gr. That is also where official certificates and copies are issued, which BizList does not issue.
