Three ways to find a VAT number

With BizList

Type the VAT number or the name. You see the company with all its details, without an account. Covers every business registered in GEMI.

With VIES

Confirms whether a VAT number is active for intra-EU trade and returns the name and address. It cannot search by name and shows nothing else.

Check a VAT number in VIES

With myAADE

The Greek tax authority gives VAT number details only to the taxpayer or an authorised accountant. There is no public VAT number search at the tax authority.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find a company's VAT number?
Type the name or trade name into the search. The VAT number appears next to every result and at the top of the company profile. Companies with the same name are told apart by seat and activity code.
How do I find which company a VAT number belongs to?
Type the nine digits into the search, with or without the EL prefix. If the number belongs to a business registered in GEMI, its profile opens.
What is an AFM (Greek VAT number)?
The AFM is the nine-digit number the Greek tax authority issues to every taxpayer, individual or legal entity. The last digit is a check digit. In intra-EU trade it is written with the EL prefix.
What is the difference between a VAT number and a GEMI number?
The VAT number (AFM) is issued by the tax authority for tax purposes, and individuals have one too. The GEMI number is issued by the Chambers for company disclosure. A company has both.
Can I find a private individual's VAT number?
No. BizList shows only businesses registered in GEMI, that is companies and sole traders with commercial activity. A private individual's VAT number is personal data and is not searchable.
How do I check whether a VAT number is valid?
For validity in intra-EU trade there is the VIES check, free on BizList. For whether the number belongs to an existing, active business, the search here shows its status in the register.
Is the VAT number lookup free?
Yes. The VAT number, registry details, activity codes, seat and people are open without an account. A subscription unlocks profit figures, unlimited searches and list exports.
